Saturday Night

☕ Coffee with Grim

Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons… if we’re paying attention.

Cold drink. Snacks within reach.

After a long week at work, I was finally ready to sit down and watch the action movie I’d recorded on the DVR a week earlier.

I hit play…

…and quickly realized the DVR hadn’t started recording until 26 minutes after the movie began.

I had missed the entire setup.

The characters were already fighting, alliances had already been made, and I had no idea why any of it was happening.

I tried rewinding to the beginning, but it wasn’t there.

Gone.

As I sat there, frustrated with the TV, my mind wandered somewhere else.

Isn’t that how life feels sometimes?

We spend so much time wishing we could go back and change the beginning.

Different choices. Different words. Different roads taken.

But life doesn’t have a rewind button.

The beginning is gone.

What we do have is the next scene.

Maybe that’s enough.

Because while you can’t go back and change the beginning…

You can start where you are and change the ending.

So, before I finish this cup of coffee, let me leave you with one question…

Are you spending more time looking for the rewind button… or writing a better ending?

Until next time… keep paying attention and make the next scene count.

This really hit home. I think we can spend so much time replaying the scenes we wish had gone differently that we forget we’re still holding the pen. The past may explain how we got here, but it doesn’t have to decide where we go next. No rewind button needed—just the courage to make the next scene count.

Exactly. We can’t change the scenes that are already behind us, but we can decide how much power we continue to give them. The past can teach us, shape us, and even strengthen us—but it doesn’t get to write what comes next. Sometimes courage is simply putting down the rewind button, picking up the pen, and choosing to make the next scene better.

Thank you for these words. It was an encouraging reminder to not waste energy thinking of how to rewind the clock but rather shifting the focus towards looking forward. All about perspective.

I also had a long week at work too so I feel you on that.

Thank you! It really is about perspective. We can spend so much energy wishing we could change what already happened that we miss what’s still in front of us. The past may explain how we got here, but it doesn’t have to decide where we go next.

And I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who had one of those weeks! 😂 Here’s hoping this one treats us both a little better. Keep moving forward!

…and another one! 100% agree. I’ve often thought about the past and thought how it could’ve been different, however, I realized that changing just one “scene” may have led to not having certain people in my life today and that would never qualify as a regret. Thank you, yet again, for sharing your perspective, always welcome. Keep fighting the good fight brother!

That’s such a great way to look at it. We tend to think about changing the painful scenes without considering what else might disappear with them. Some of the roads I probably wouldn’t have chosen are the very ones that brought certain people, lessons, and even purpose into my life.

Maybe the goal isn’t to wish for a different story, but to learn to appreciate what the whole story has given us—the good, the hard, and the people we picked up along the way.

Keep fighting the good fight, brother. 👊
