The Puzzle Piece

Coffee with Grim

Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons… if we’re paying attention.

I was picking up around the house the other day when I looked down in the dining room and noticed a single puzzle piece lying on the floor.

That struck me as odd.

It had been quite a while since we’d worked on a puzzle at the dining room table, yet somehow one lonely piece had escaped and was waiting to be found.

I picked it up and turned it over in my hand.

Funny how one little piece of cardboard can make you stop and think.

When we’re putting together a puzzle, we don’t expect every piece to look the same. Some are edge pieces. Some are corners. Most are those oddly shaped pieces that don’t seem to belong anywhere…

…until suddenly they do.

Life isn’t much different.

We’re all shaped by different experiences. Different relationships. Different struggles. Different victories.

No two of us are exactly alike.

Yet somewhere along the way, many of us begin believing we should fit where someone else fits.

I know I’ve done it.

More than once, I’ve tried to force a puzzle piece into a place where I was convinced it belonged. It looked close enough. I wanted it to fit.

So I pushed a little harder.

Of course…

It never worked.

The right piece doesn’t have to be forced.

It simply fits.

Maybe people are like that too.

Maybe we spend too much of our lives trying to squeeze ourselves into places we were never meant to belong…

…instead of discovering where we truly do.

Every puzzle needs every piece.

Not because they’re the same…

Because they’re different.

That’s what makes the picture complete.

So, before I finish this cup of coffee, let me leave you with one question.

Where in your life are you trying to force a fit… instead of finding where you truly belong?

Until next time… keep paying attention.
