☕ Coffee with Grim
Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons… if we’re paying attention.
I was sitting at the dealership the other day waiting for my car’s oil to be changed when I overheard a customer talking with the service advisor. Frustrated, he finally said, “Well… there has to be a reason for the problem.”
Nothing unusual about that. In fact, he was probably right.
But as I sat there with a cup of coffee, his words stayed with me.
There has to be a reason.
Funny how our minds work. Instead of thinking about the problem he was talking about, I found myself asking a different question.
What if I became the reason?
Not the reason something went wrong…
The reason something went right.
We spend so much of our lives waiting for someone else to be the reason. The reason we heal. The reason we’re happy. The reason we’re inspired. The reason our lives change.
But what if we’ve been asking the wrong question?
What if today, I could be the reason?
The reason someone doesn’t give up.
The reason a veteran finally asks for help.
The reason someone believes people are still good.
The reason a stranger smiles.
The reason someone feels seen.
The beautiful part is that it probably won’t happen because of some grand gesture. More likely, it’ll happen because of the quiet things; the phone call you almost didn’t make, the hug you almost withheld, the text you almost deleted, the conversation you almost avoided, or the simple act of kindness that took only thirty seconds but stayed with someone for years.
You’ll probably never know.
You may never hear that your words kept someone going. You may never realize your smile interrupted someone’s darkest day. You may never find out that one small act changed the direction of someone else’s life.
That’s okay.
Not every seed gets planted where we can watch it grow.
So, before I finish this cup of coffee, let me leave you with one question.
Whose story will be different tomorrow because you showed up today?
Until next time… keep paying attention.
