Forgive Yourself

Theme: Release guilt or regret to move forward.

Focus: Replace self-blame with self-acceptance.

Task: Write about one mistake you’re holding onto and one kind thing you can say to yourself about it.

Journal Reflection:

  1. Write about a mistake or regret you’re holding onto.
  2. What lesson did it teach you?
  3. What “kind words” can you offer yourself to let go?

Grim’s Journal Entry:

One mistake I’m holding onto is a decision I made while deployed to Iraq that almost put people in serious danger. The weight of that moment, knowing how close it came to tragedy, has stayed with me for years.

One kind thing I can say to myself about it is this: I made that decision with the information I had at the time, under extreme pressure and circumstances no one should ever have to face. I survived it, I learned from it, and I’ve spent every day since trying to lead with more awareness, care, and responsibility. I’m human, and being human means making mistakes, owning them, and growing.

My journal reflection:

  1. Write about a mistake or regret you’re holding onto:

A decision I made while deployed to Iraq almost put people in serious danger. The memory of how close it came to causing harm has stayed with me for years.

2, What lesson did it teach you?

It taught me the importance of pausing, assessing every possible outcome, and taking responsibility for the weight of my decisions — especially when others’ lives depend on me.

  1. What “kind words” can you offer yourself to let go?

I made that decision with the information I had at the time, under extreme pressure. I survived it, I learned from it, and I’ve worked every day since to lead with more awareness and care. I am human, I owned my mistake, and I am still growing.
