Cultivate Patience

Theme: Strengthen your ability to stay calm under pressure

Focus: Learn to pause and respond thoughtfully.

Task: Practice a 2-minute breathing reflection during moments of frustration and journal its effect.

Journal Reflection:

  1. When was the last time you felt impatient?
  2. How could patience have changed the outcome?
  3. What strategies can you use to stay calm in similar situations?

Grim’s Journal Entry:

  1. When was the last time you felt impatient?

It was during a moment of frustration at work (dealing with a student) when things felt out of my control and I wanted an immediate resolution. My body was tense, my thoughts were racing, and I could feel myself slipping into old patterns of wanting to push or force an outcome.

  1. How could patience have changed the outcome?

Patience would have allowed me to slow down, listen more fully, and respond instead of react. It would have reduced the emotional charge of the moment and helped me stay grounded, making the situation less stressful for everyone involved — including myself.

  1. What strategies can you use to stay calm in similar situations?

I can pause for a 2-minute breathing reflection, focus on slow, steady breaths, and remind myself that urgency doesn’t equal importance. Journaling afterward, grounding myself in the present moment, and choosing to respond with intention rather than impulse will help me stay calm.
